I went on several of the previous pre-season tours to Holland and Sweden and the opposition we played were generally garbage. At least this season we stuffed one of them and got some confidence flowing.
Since then we've played two French top division clubs. one game by all accounts was very competitive against Bastia and we acquitted ourselves well. The other game we scored 5 goals and whilst there may be a few doubts over how "up for it" the opposition were we look to have played some nice stuff and scored a few goals again. last pre-season the concern was that in those games the pattern of play we saw for the rest of the season was being established - i.e. conservative play with us posing no goal threat. People were therefore worried and they were proven right.
This pre-season we look to be passing well, moving well and have a genuine goal threat. i therefore just don;t get why some people are moaning. From what i've seen our players look strong and fit, the likes of Surman and Wes have come back with a point to prove and we have quite an athletic front 6 now with several naturally fit players like Redmond, Grabban, the Murphs and E Bennett. I'm not worried about us being ready to face Wolves. It won;t be an easy game but it should not be forgotten that we have a squad of players who have proven themselves in the premiership. That game is also a massive step up for Wolves who were in league 1 last year so they should be just as worried about us as we are about them, if not more so.
Probably my only concern from pre-season so far is that it looks like Martin might get the nod at CB ahead of Ryan Bennett which I'm not sure is the right move in a division where a lot of teams have an aerial threat. I can see what Adams is thinking but Martin gets caught out quite a bit in the air.
