but you could sum that World Cup with the moment when the whole German bench jumped up and got Gazza booked. I loved certain games and moments from that World Cup but overall it was cynical and although their wasn't the Premier League or Champions League hanging over it, it did carry a lot of the negative tactics and gamesmanship of the lucrative Serie A at that time. Argentina cheated in two games (USSR and Brazil) and won another two games on penalties (Yugoslavia and Italy) to get to the final. Republic of Ireland reached the QF despite not winning a game.
