1990 was the last great tournament IMO before football turned into a business first and a sport 2nd. The introduction of Sky just after was the catalyst for the change. If you look at the passion shown by England during that 1990 tournament you could see they would cut their arms off to win for Bobby Robson and progress in the tournament. These days I honestly think they are not overly bothered. The next multiple-million pound commercial deal is far more important to them.

Plus also on the playing side we had several bonafide world class players (Lineker, Platt, Gazza, Pearce, shilton) These days I don't think we have one.
