Whilst reading Lakey + Wise's Hits and Misses article, they venture the idea that noone has really left Norwich to go on further in their career. Whilst this is generally true (although barely surprising as any player recently to leave us is generally awful anyway) it made me think about Darel Russell.
Personally I would take Rusty back in our team over everyone of our midfielders bar Safri. Since leaving the fine city he has played almost every single game possible for Stoke City - and is a real crowd favourite there now. He's now a key part of a Stoke team that actually look pretty stylish now - and you can't rule them out of a playoff spot this season if that Bangoura keeps banging them in. The point is he was always a player with potential - just a case of harnessing it. I know he wasn't always brilliant for us - he sometimes went missing a bit and seemed to play better in front of the live TV cameras - but at least he had a bit of power and drive about him, something we so lack now.
I'm not neccessarily blaming Worthy for letting him go - it has probably worked out best for everyone (we got Francis in and won the league - he played the 100+ games in 2 and a bit seasons he needed to really move up a level of performance). It's just a shame that we don't always see the best of these youngsters.
Thoughts?
