based on what?

To me (from a long distance - never met the bloke or read his book), he's always seemed likeable enough, if a bit, well, boring. Plainly v driven though - he had to be to make it as a top cycling when he came from a country with virtually no eite cycling infratructure or programme whatsoever. (So basically did it himself - eg turning up in Europe with a bike and not much else, to find himself a team.)

But may have missed stuff. What are you basing your view on?
