Easy to explain. Cognitive dissonance. No-one likes it.

It cannot be conceivably possible for a footballer to simultaneously:

a) convince a group of experienced football people that he's worth ten million euros/pounds or whatever we paid.

b) be as ionospherically s**t as he was last season

Cannot both be true. Cannot. Simple truth.

So we have to see him continue to resolve the dissonance: either he really is that s**t, and everyone that decided to buy him was bats**t mental, or he's really not that s**t at all.
