The way I see it, refs are working on self preservation

They'll warm to bigger crowds or bigger teams because it keeps them in further games. If they make crucial decisions against a big team, they risk s**t from bigger managers and teams, so they hold back

That's a clear advantage to teams, like I say, until 2 giants meet and then a ref is left to make a real decision

I don't expect to see normal refereeing until the knockout stages
