Just got back from being down the pub and a few games of Pro Evo after travelling to Crewe and thought i would give my player ratings for the game
Green - 6. Didn't really have much to do. Made one great save first half when 0-1 down and generally safe handling. Distribution was poor though.
Wright - 6. Looked solid against his old club and tried to offer support going forward. Unspectacular but didnt do much wrong.
Doherty -5. Looked all at sea in the first half and his constant 'hoofs' for distibution do nothing for our gaem going forwards. Missed quite a few headers too. He still doesn't fill me with confidence.
Davenport - 7. It will be a shame to lose him, even if it is only for the Christmas period. Made a fantastic block 2nd half and generally looked good in the air. I dont think our defence will function as well with Fleming there.
Drury -6. Not the player he used to be. Looks nervous defensively and seems to have gone a bit stale here. 2nd half he made some good runs forward and linked with Huckerby well.
Robinson -5. If you are not a very good player, please do not wear white boots. He seems capable of only passing sidewards and backwards and his inclusion in the team baffles me. Made one good throughball to Etuhu 2nd half.
Safri -7. Not his best game but still controlled our midfield and kept his head when others were osing theirs. Tried to keep the ball on the deck and no sign of his injury problems.
Hughes -6. Not one of his worse games and was asked to play in several different positions. I still think his enthusiasm and leadership simply papers over the fact he has a lack of footballing ability. His crosses first half were terrible, and when he was subbed we played better football. Nuff said.
Etuhu -7. Probably his best game for us so far. Would still like him to impose himself on the game more, but made many forward runs and got on the end to create some chances for himself. Never stopped working.
Thorne - 5. Didn't play long enough really, but still doesn't look up to it.
Ashton - 8. Best player on the pitch by a country mile. He was everywhere - defence, midfield, attack. Unfortunately didnt get the goal he deserved but set-up for McVeigh. His strength, willingness, attitude nad enthusiasm showed up everything Norwich HAVEN'T had this season. Reckon those Crewe fans miss him...
Subs
McVeigh -8. Really effective when he came on, especially 2nd half with uis goals. His link up play with Ashton and Huckerby was good and he done well to get 2 headed goals for a man of 5 feet 5!
Huckerby -7. Seemed to be the catalyst for our comeback. As soon as he came on the players got a lift and he seemed well up for it. Made some good runs and scared the tired Crewe defence. I think he should be captain permanently - he's not the biggest shouter but inspires the other players with his ability and drive (think it would make him a more determined player too if he got the armband)
Overall then: A good performace and a lovely day out at Crewe. Ground close to train station and a great chippy and pub with Guinness! Met some friendly Crewe fans and at last an away win to enjoy.
The performace wasnt great, but 2nd half proved if we get the ball down and pass it - we can be a threat. Worthington has probably saved his job, but we still have big problems and i still believe his time will be up soon.
