The point of scouting is that you have to see beyond the quality of the opposition to gauge a player's talent. It's far to simplistic to say 'the players were s**te so I was right to be concerned'. Holt spent a lot of his career playing against non-league cloggers and ended up scoring double figures in the Prem. Go figure.
