Maybe our players aren't good enough...

but other countries (and foreign clubs) change their formation to get the best out of their key players (normally the flair players). Brazil and France are prime examples, tending to play two sitting midfielders and allowing the rest to interchange and do what they do best.

Maybe our flair players just aren't good enough to warrant that, but players like Hoddle, Le Tissier and (to a degree) Scholes would have given us so much more with that extra freedom.
