Yeah I guess. But you do hear a lot of "joined because of X"

(Of course, with Hughton, we may now be regretting those people that wanted to join because of him...)

Is it just another line in the standard pack of new signing's phrases? Maybe. But they could just not say it, rather than say it and not mean it.
