What I do know though is that no England manager can win with friendlies, given how seriously people seem to take them.
He picks something close to the first team, and everyone slags him off for not experimenting - "what on earth are we going to learn from this?"
He picks fringe players to have a look at them, and everyone says "but this isn't the team that will actually play - what's the point of this? He's wasting one of his few opportunites to actually let the team play together and get used to each other!"
He tries to do both, by giving the first team a half to play together, and the fringe players a half to impress, and it's "what a farce - he's made 8 substitutions at half-time, the whole thing's meaningless."
Basically no right answer.
