Then reinstated him?!

And it's not ridiculous. It's understandable that he wasn't sacked - because he kept doing just enough - and just as understandable that we sacked him when we did, because we calculated we'd have more chance of getting something today with him gone.

This was all about today and today only. The gamble failed, and that's that.
