aye, the referee blew for the penalty, then went over to see why the linesman was flagging

It turned out the player that got 'fouled' was offside when the ball was passed to him, so the ref had to go back and give the freekick for the offside. As it happens, it was a dive (a bad one at that) from Jamie Scowcroft, or however his name is pronounced
