Here was my email i sent: (its v long!)
Dear Mr Doncaster,
I am a 20-year-old fan who has been supporting Norwich since I cant remember! I had a season ticket for four years, up until i went to Uni in Nottingham over two years ago. That means unfortunately, i missed out the majority of the games during the promotion and premiership season (just my luck!) However, these two seasons were probably my best as a football fan, thanks in part to Nigel and his team, even though i found myself at Craven Cottage for our embarrasing 0-6 no-show in May.
This season i have managed 5 games so far (Crewe, Sheff Wed at home and Luton, Birmingham and Wolves away). I wont harp on about the results of these games, as a football fan you don't exactly go to a game expecting to win every time. It's just that the complete lack of effort or football ability was evident in the first half at Luton and the whole game against Sheff Weds and Wolves. the only time i can say i have been entertained for my money this season was in the draw against Crewe.
I had always hoped that i would be able to get my season ticket back for the beginning of next season when i finish University and can afford the travel and the time. At the moment, the way we are playing i will have no problem getting my season ticket back - i have heard many people will not be renewing them under the current regime. Unfortunately, under Nigel Worthington i fee li shall not be interested in it either. The team at the moment is made up of a bunch of very very average footballers, im afraid to say, and they have in the majority been signed by Nigel. They do not entertain - they show a lack of movement, skill, enthusiasm or willing for the cause. To me, the only players who have showed signs of willing this season are Gary Doherty (once so revered by City fans), Rossi Jarvis when he has been given ten minutes, Andy Hughes (im sorry he is an awful footballer but at least he tries), Youssef Safri and Dean Ashton. The rest of them dont look bothered or interested. The recent loaning of Jason Jarrett to Plymouth just showed that maybe Worthington has no confidence in a player he signed only 5 months ago. Jarrett is probably not a bad footballer, it just seems the confidence has been drained from him - for this read Ashton, Green , Huckerby etc.
Nigel's signings this summer leave alot to be desired. Im not going to judge Mathieu Louis-Jean yet as he got injured just two days in, yet we have signed two more right backs since in Jurgen Colin and David Wright, so whats the point in having 3 (sometimes 4 in Fleming) right-backs and no righ winger at the club? We also signed Peter Thorne - at best a journeyman striker at this level. Andy Hughes shows a complete lack of ability for a player who cost in excess of ?1million including wages, and apparantly Worthington thought he couldnt play alongside Jarrett - why sign them both then, when we only have about 4 real midfielders at the club - its just crazy! As for Dean Marney, he looked a decent player but was played out of position at right wing. Why not sign someone in the mould of Paul Ifill in that position - a natural right winger and playing out of his skin at Sheff Utd.
Now our team is made up of a bunch of loan signings, who arent really interested, to get Nigel out of the hole he created for himself in the summer. Added to this poor signing record, Nigel then preceeded to play Simon Charlton and Jim Brennan in central midfield. These two are decent players in their own right - on the LEFT! Against Birmingham Nigel played Charlton left-mid and Brennan left-back. To anyone else this should be the other way round. it's ignorance and a lack of judgement! I know we have had injury problems thsi season but it cant hide ignorance and players playing well, well below their ability. I think Nigel has lost the players confidence. I know we have a player after every embarrasing result against lowly opposition coming out in defence of Nigel, but this seems like spin to me, nothing else. How can you account for the performances against Wolves, Luton, QPR, Millwall etc if the manager is doing his job properly? Away from home a team should aim to keep the home team out for half an hour and then build from there. Stoke, Watford, Luton, QPR, Birmingham, Wolves, Coventry - all these away games we have gone 0-1 or 0-2 down within 20 mins or so - if an away taem can frustrate a home team for half an hour their fans might start getting on their back - this is what we need to do! Its crazy.
Our team has the potential to be bombing thsi league. It is full of very average players and poor teams. Look at the teams top of the league - Reading and Sheff Utd look like us in our promotion season - no stars but a great team spirit. This seems to have been lost at carrow road and i am afraid with the current management team and the lack of effort or belief from the players the only way this club is going is down to League 1, not up to the Premiership. I am not saying this lays wholly with Nigel Worthington but those players who are not performing to their potential were signed by him and the buck must stop somewhere. Please give me and many others a reason to buy season tickets for next year. Watching my football team is like a drug and i get a buzz rom it like nothing else - but i am not prepared to spend my money on watching this utter rubbish week-in week-out. (I shall be at Derby Saturday!!!)
Thanks for reading and any response would be admirable,
Paul Usher
