that's stretching it quite a bit

I'd buy that argument if he'd handled it further out, whilst the ball still had distance to travel and swerve towards the goal*, but at the point he handled it there was no goal scoring opportunity.

That said, I can't blame the ref for making that call in the heat of the moment and without the benefit of replays.

*assuming, for the sake of argument, that the laws of physics could have permitted it to do so.
