I can't really comment on extremism as the 4 or 5 times I've been I have not witnessed any

sort of situations whereby you are advised about travelling to particular areas because of extremists, unlike Indonesia.

Largely they are seen as being pretty neutral as a country in their foreign policies, and have a real melting pot of cultures within, Indian, Chinese, Malay etc (great food by the way)
