is that ultimately affordable though?

I guess time will tell as to whether or not those pay rises and generous pension schemes will see the employees replaced with cheaper alternatives.

Admittedly such 'efficiency savings' may have happened anyway, so there's an argument for making hay whilst the sun shines, but I can't help think that it's going to be a case of preserving generous benefits for some but at the expense of actual jobs for many others.
