...and believe me, I'm a fan too, so am tempted. But...
Fair enough they're in our city too and there can't've been too many previous occasions, but they've been reunited for over five years now, so any huge fan has had numerous opportunites to pay big ticket money for a gig in London or a festival appearance in that time.
Their time was in the late 70s, early to mid 80s. Even accounting for inflation, in their prime they never would've cost anywhere near the equivalent reduced rate. And that was when they had founding member Jerry Dammers still on board. Neville Staple packed it in last year too.
I do a lot of gigs in the city, obviously with much smaller bands, but that then means I'm used to free gigs or ones that only cost three quid or so, 6-8 tops.
And the City casual ticket angle that I knew would be raised; I've seen it as high as ?60 for the premium seats in the middle block of the Jarrold. No way would I pay 50/60 for a game. I'd baulk at 40 too. Should be in the region of 30 tops. Much less for lower oppo. I make use of a spare family season ticket every once in a while, so would only consider buying a spare off a stranger at 1/38th of the total st cost. I'd far rather pay ?4 match subs and play myself anyway!
But...
That all said, I do understand why you were happy to pay and hope the gig is a great one and you enjoy it thoroughly!!
