A season can be influenced by all sorts of things which can have a bearing on the league table. I'm not denying we finished 11th. It's there in black and white. He ultimately kept us up which meant he did an acceptable job last season (don't agree just keeping us up equates to quite the same this season). He has my respect for managing that.
However the 11th place finish is being portrayed as some kind of magnificent achievement whereas the reality is that the tightness of the league coupled with us winning away at Man City on the last day meant we finished higher than we would have done had Man City given a sh*t. We were not the 11th best team in that division and had we finished 15th or 16th nobody would be saying that we deserved to finish higher because we all know that in reality we neatly went down. If we'd finished 16th do you think that would be banded around as an "astonishing achievement?" No it wouldn't. Acceptable yes and mission accomplished but now the fact we finished 11th appears to be being used (in part) to justify keeping him on which to me is worrying.
