I once played hockey against a team that were SO confident of beating us

Won?t say who they were but Ali G?s was local to the area..

They were that confident of winning before the game they had a sweepstake (witnessed by one of our squad) where each member of their team was allocated a number (think this was between 1-11) of the amount of goals they scored on the day. Some of them appeared to be happy getting 5,6,7, others less so with 1, 2.

We scored first, played well and got a 1-1 draw after having survived a great deal of pressure. This result ultimately cost them the league and promotion.

At the end of the season this team needed their top of the league rivals not to beat us on the week after the last day of the season as the game was re-arranged due to weather. Quite a few of our team were unavailable and one didn?t turn up as his car broke down.

A few of this team came to watch and cheers us on not knowing we had half the second team playing and would only start the game with ten men. We were three down in no time and lost very heavily. Although I hated losing that badly I felt a quiet satisfaction that what I saw as their arrogance earlier in the season coming back to get them.
