So why aren't we?

Could be any or all of:

(a) Complacency. "We're 12th, players coming back from injury, will kick on from here, nothing to worry about"

(b) Tightness. "We've only just cleared our debt, don't want to gamble the club's future, prices are ridiculous in January a d we only want value for money, look how much we saved on Hooper"

(c) New manager coming. "Not giving money to Cautious Chris so he can bequeath the next man a squad full of slow huffers"

(d) Full trust in Cautious Chris. "He'll keep us up with the excellent squad he's assembled, if he wants new players he can have them but he's happy enough given the lack of real quality alternatives available in Jan"
