Sunderland haven't actually spent a lot of money this season because they've shipped out a lot of players as well as signing a fair few. They gained about ?20 million for the sales of Mignolet, Sessegnon, McClean and Elmohamady, so I can see why Poyet has been afforded the potential luxury of a new ?4 million midfield signing.
