And another thing. "We battered Cardiff 0-0! We hammered them! 30 chances!"

No. No. No.

One of the most depressing things about this very depressing season is just how many fans seem to have reduced football - what we see in front of our eyes - to statistics. In fact, in terms of "we're 12th! A point nearer safety! What more do you want?", it just goes on and on and on.

We DIDN'T batter Cardiff. We had two or three great chances; that's it. That folk hailed that as a class performance was itself a sign of just how poor this side has become.

We can't score goals. We don't even try to score goals a good deal of the time. We don't link up as a team, we have next to no creativity, and our one creative player is persona non grata. And against opponents absolutely there for the taking tonight, we shut up shop and treated a point is a good result. Well, it's not.

Football is NOT this joyless, this corporate, this Pyrrhic. There IS more to the game than this unadulterated, excuse ridden garbage. Football actually involves daring, risk, trying to win instead of constantly playing for a draw.

That's why the Hooper sub made me so angry; managers trying to win would go 4-3-2 in those circumstances. It often works 10 v 11, never mind 10 v 10 at a time we were finally showing some signs of life. But not this one.

"What we have, we hold. Don't give it away. Don't f**king give it away". It's a miserable approach - to life and even to business, never mind to football - and if we go down, we'll thoroughly deserve to.
