Well...

some of that I agree with - using gay in that context I understand as I would say the vast majority of society is entirely comfortable with the distinction (small pockets excepted of course)

Going near mental illness is far more taboo though in my opinion - society is just clawing to come to terms with the fact that this sort of thing is still seen as a sin or a weakness, and to trivialize it (except amongst a circle of friends who you KNOW are of similar opinion as you) is just asking for trouble imo.
