I think people expect him to play a similar style to Vieira or Essien

but really he's more of a deep lying playmaker - who can also drive forward.

With the right players alongside him, he looks excellent in that role.

Alongside Johnson - who doesn't easily make himself available for passes and is all one footed, Fer struggles.
