...due to the nature of the game, you don't want someone who can run for 90 minutes solid, 2 games a week, giving the sort of workrate in patches that Worthy so loves. That kind of fitness is also what you want in rugby, but this is a different game. In AF you want someone who can explode at full speed and strength for 10 seconds at a time with a 30 second pause between.
Therefore their fitness is all geared toward short burst and explosive power.
