If we hadn't had Holt we would have replaced him with someone else - who might well have scored more than the 8 goals Holt managed and we might have stayed up far more easily.

No-one knows. If he had scored about 15 goals again I might have agreed with you but he didn't. He managed a total that a lot of players starting that number of games could have managed.
