It all depends on the Board`s assessment

of how much Worthie is to blame for the current shambles on the pitch and when his culpability started.
What we must presume is that:-
a) They watch most of the games and are able to form a conclusion as to how well the team is performing.
b) They have given Worthie a free hand in the transfer market subject to financial constraints as to whom he does and does not want at the club
c) They have a regular appraisal procedures to review his and his coaching staff`s performance and set realistic performance targets . Last season such target would have been to avoid relegation but if not have a team or be in a position to build a team capable of mounting a realistic chance of immediate promotion. This season it would have been - should be a playoff place, could be promotion via the play offs but ultimately aiming at automatic promotion.
d) They spend some time on the training ground to observe training.
On the basis of the above the Board are either blind or self delusional if based upon the above presumptions they do not conclude that

a) We underachieved last year in the premiership.
b) In matches (never mind training) the team is performing abysmally and has been performing abysmally all season with the ocassional exception. The football is dull, the tactics consist of nothing more than a long ball hoof to Ashton and set piece moves non existant.
c) Many of the players brought in by Worthie are poor and are not as good as those released.
d) The club`s playing record since promotion has been shocking and at best the club have been on a downward spiral since August 2005 and at worst since
August 2004.
e) Worthie did not achieve his first performance target of staying in the premiership and is failing miserably in his second performance target of building a team to and sustain a credible promotion push

Objective conclusion - Worthie is and has been failing since August 2004 and has been failing badly since August 2005. If the Board accept this then the only justification of keeping him is that he will turn it around. I am puzzled however as to what objective evidence there is to sustain that belief. The current team are HIS players, HIS coaches, HIS tactics. He has noone else to blame but himself .
