Rail seating is a row of high backed seats which with a rail above it which would be around waist height for the person(s) behind.
This rail would stop the possibility of crowds surging forwards like in the old terracing.
Standing areas would have to be in areas of the ground which were below a 25 degree gradient.
Each row of 10 normally seated fans would accommodate 17-18 standing fans.
The seats would be locked into the upright position for games that allowed standing and can be unlocked for seating at games that require all seater venues such as the champions league (fat chance of us getting that any time soon)
We at the Barclay End Projekt (using the German spelling of project due to wanting their type of seating) hope that a safestanding Barclay Lower would be considered to increase both capacity and ticket profits, whilst reducing ticket prices for the fans themselves.
We believe that installing rail seating would cost around 250-300k for a stand like the Barclay Lower. To put that into perspective, that's the same amount of cash that was spent on adding goal line technology this summer.
