After the first 15 minutes we dominated the first half, and shaded the second half. In fact on reflection it was one of the most undeserved away wins I've ever seen at CR, given how spawny their goal was and how few chances other than that they had. Question is, how come we only get that performance after playing so poorly against Fulham?
It is frustrating to see the manager sub your leading scorer when you're looking for a goal, so I can understand the crowd's reaction. It wasn't immediately obvious he was injured, just tired. Still a threat though. Moreover, it is frustrating at the ground when Hoots clearly just plumped for his scripted change, especially in that situation when the reigning champions are there for the taking. The system was effective with Wes on form, but at a goal down the game was crying out for a more positive approach, not just maintaining the status quo. As for RVW, why does he drop so deep? When you're playing one up front it rather defeats the object of the system, doesn't it?
On the whole, a very gallant defeat, not that that helps our points total. In fact, it was quite reminiscent of the home game vs Man City last season at the same time of the year. Indeed, that's the fourth festive home game I've been to in two seasons, and the fourth defeat. Next year I might not bother!
