Much as I don't like Jordan at Palace, he's done the right thing with Johnson, has publicly quoted that anyone interested in him can start the bidding "at ?10 million, or forget it". And you just know he means it. Johnson has said he wants to stay and get them back again, they have obviously demonstrated to him that they are going to go for it from the off, which has persuaded him-sure, he may be on his way one day, but he won't yet, he knows it, Jordan knows it, their fans know it, possible incoming players to CP know it.
All we have had from about March onwards is that we can "afford" to go down, that no-one will be sold "unless the manager says so" and that it would be for "silly money". As far as Ashton is concerned, accepting bids of ?3-?4 million would be ludricous, and would make me doubt anything that Neil Doncaster says again.
I didn't think he'd be going anywhere, but I am now convinced he'll be gone by the end of July. It further makes me sure that Worthy's "five year plan", as quoted by Roger Munby, is not about keeping the squad together and getting back into the Prem next season, but about dismantling the current squad, building a new one, and being in a position to get promotion again within that time.
We struggled last season because we were "too nice"-lets top being nice now about the speculation surrounding our players and make it clear what our intentions are, rather than keeping sctum and letting the rumours build and build.
