Didn't even one person there see it and think, "wait a moment, shouldn't we think about this?". It is old fashioned, stereotypical and very Bernard Manning'esque. Therefore its just not funny. Humour has moved on. Attitudes most definitely have.
The Daily Mirror got a roasting for their "Achtung!" headline years ago. Because it was cheap and backward. This cartoon isn't so different. Its all very well 'lightening up' and laughing at the joke rather than getting wound up about it-but it isn't funny anyway!
