it's a nasty business seeing s**tty decisions like that

I went through the same when a very useful and productive colleague was fired. I pointed out to the top brass that there was plenty of high-earning ballast who could've been sacked without affecting anything at all.

3 months later I was first up in the next batch of redundancies...

That was a good thing though as redundancy pay is excellent here
