Far, far too many weird things happened which formed a clear pattern - but personally, I've always thought Far Eastern bookies nobbled certain refs, not that this was down to orders from on high.

More generally, I agree with you. It's just that I'd put nothing past FIFA, absolutely nothing. It's an international criminal organisation. And given everything we already know about them - and that they're entirely untouchable, even by governments - why wouldn't they do this if they could?
