Don't really buy that...

...it's a cultural and nurture thing...

Aussies, like yanks, are brought up to believe in the power of sport and that winning is what counts - losing to them is s**t which is why they're so poor at it...

That attitude is replicated and reinforced generation after generation so it starts to feel 'natural'..

We on the other hand frown at overt displays of affection, pride or self promotion - we're taught it;s not the done thing...

Therefore we tend not to gloat too much...

There are exceptions of course but they pretty much prove the rule...
