Putting it simply, there's two approaches we could take:
1. Defend resolutely and make ourselves difficult to beat.
2. Be creative and attempt to score goals.
The tactics may vary from game to game and they'll be no means be sucessful in every game, but surely you aspire to one or the other.
Yet somehow we offer neither. Our build up play is slow and not particularly pressing, so scoring is hardly a priority. So that leaves robust defending? But we don't do that either. We just seem to stand off, give space, and plead for a light belly tickling as opposed to a sound thrashing.
It just doesn't work and the results are evidence that it's a complete failure. Every trip is now met with dread as to how many we might concede. We can't play like this.
Despite repeated proof of our failings, Hughton just doesn't seem able to address the issue. Lovely guy and all that, but he has to go.
