He is actually a very good manager. He likes to play attacking football and good passing football.
However, Holloway could see that the only way that Palace had a chance in the PL was to play Hoofball - which goes against the way he believes the game should be played.
Holloway didn't want to be the manager of a team that plays hoofball, so he resigned and recommended to Palace one of his best mates since schools days (and godfather to one of his kids)... Tony Pulis.
Once you know the background, you can understand the logic behind why Ollie resigned, why the Palace board still regard him so highly, and why Pulis got the job.
