Although this is clearly a wind-up...

... it does touch on a very real issue that vexes many of us who consider ourselves to be human beings who cycle, rather than this mythical breed "cyclists".

And that issue is the dehumanising process that goes on when some people get behind the wheel of a vehicle, one that leads them to undertake or condone actions that they would surely never contemplate elsewhere in life.

Dangerous overtakes, spitting, threats of violence, plus what I call 'punishment manoeuvres' where the driver actually uses his or her car as a weapon against a cyclist. I've seen them all.

If you attack someone in the street you'll most likely get locked up, and everyone knows this. I don't get how some drivers feel their position as a motorist gives them a free pass from common human decency, despite the fact that they are in control of a deadly weapon.
