that I feel he ought to be celebrated, or commemorated, at least on retirement, in some way that'd properly demonstrate his almost complete mastery of the sport. And my preference would not be for the standard statue, or knighthood or the like, but a public installation (in Stoke, probably) at which one could press a button and see videos of his final-winning checkouts across the years. Then, viewers could watch fashions and hairstyles and picture quality change and change again while he grew gradually older but kept on winning.
The man is a ledge. Not a very flat one, but a ledge anyway.
