It seems to be a commonly used stick to beat Calderwood with on here that he is tactically useless because he played Holt on the right wing.
I asked a Forest supporting friend about this, and it is not how it is portrayed here at all.
in 2006/7, Calderwood played Holt up front nearly every game, and he finished top scorer, with Forest finishing 4th. Holt then put in a transfer request demanding either a pay rise or that he would leave.
After the pay-rise, he started 2007/8 as the main striker, but was really poor in the opening games. Agogo, however, was in good form so Calderwood played him instead. Holt still played up front a lot, but also had several substitute appearances nominally on the wing (often when they were chasing the game). Holt scored just three goals that season and was sold in the summer.
Despite playing 'Holt on the wing' Forest, under Calderwood, finished second that season, behind Swansea.
