The most worrying thing for me is that people's opinions are really getting polorized

The outers see a defeat like that as proof of everything they see wrong with the team right now.

The inners are stuck in the view that "it's only a cup game doesn't matter' or "we were away to the league champions, what do you expect?"

I guess I game like that will only serve to confirm each person's views.
