When I played rugby I was once sent off for "foul & abusive language". I had

given away a stupid penalty that changed the game and said "f**king hell" at myself in annoyance. Told the ref I was swearing at my own stupidity but he said that didn't matter, it was the swearing on the pitch that was the problem.
As you say, more of that and it would soon stop, at least audibly
