You understand the concept that if Fer smashed the ball off target and it hit Jones and rebounded in, that Jones has no choice but to the let the goal stand. He's a fixture of the field, like a post or corner flag
That's the rules. If he the above had have happened, and Jones stopped play for a drop ball, he would be breaking the rules again
He just can't do that. Otherwise where does "the right thing" stop in the game?
There's been thousands of instances where "the right thing" hasn't been done in the game, which is met by many as "that's what makes the game exciting, the controversy"
Controversy isn't sportsmanship. Bringing out sportsmanship here is only a brittle moral fiber in a game riddled with cheating
