Just phoned two taxi companies for quotes to take two of us to an afternoon function 14 miles away on Saturday and bring us back home again in the evening.

One quoted "around ?28 each way for cash."

The other quoted a "fixed price of ?19 for each journey"

Message to the first taxi company. You bunch of thieving, fly-by-night chancers. Be off with you. Cads.

Message to the second taxi company. I'd very much like to do business with you.

A saving of ?18 that the self-righteous pompous money-saving twot would approve of.
