Not been to Rio but spent some time with work in Sao Paolo

Basically if you're an English guy on your own they assume you're after young girls - and I don't mean 18 year olds. It was quite horrible actually. Made the mistake of asking hotel staff to recommend a local bar, they assumed the wrong kind of bar and I had to explain that, no, I'm married, really not very young anyway, and just wanted to drink the local whatever and chat to local people. Ended up in the soulless hotel bar with a sad attempt at a Cap-ee-rain-ya and going to bed early.
