I do find the stark "he's not ready" comment a bit disappointing

why be so blunt publicly? Why not be a little bit more positive and say something like "he's very close"?

He probably isn't ready to start yet, but you can't dismiss the impact a young, quick, enthusiastic unknown quantity might have from the bench if we need something different.
