my lovely new wife is doing a charridy blindfolded swim, to try to help raise awareness and some dosh for the Nystagmus Network......a charridy for those visually impaired with this condition.
My step daughter was born blind in one eye and has nystagmus in her "good eye"....which means some sports where a ball is coming towards her is difficult to judge/see.... also, she wont ever be ale to drive...
EssexCanaryOTBC very kindly got us a pair of tickets for the para olympics......he kindly looked after the girls for the day at the swimming......watching athletes with FAR WORSE conditions than her own, compete in such a positive way was an inspiration to our daughter....and taught her what ever life throws at you, you CAN do it, with a positive attitude.....this is what we are encouraging her to do.... bear in mind shes 9, just started a new bigger school, and has to overcome lots of new kids staring at her and asking whats wrong with her eye....tough for our shy little girl! Although small, shes immensly brave and tackles issues and questions about her condition in a positive way....we're really proud of her.
IF you can spare anything......even if its just a good luck message.....Jacqui and I would be very grateful.....
Sorry this is a long'un!!
Many thanks
Nick (Chelts).
Right - back to the footy!
