But I think before today he's been below his usual very high standard. There's no question he's genuine class but he's not hit form this term and given the sitch with his other half and the baby that's not exactly surprising. I wouldn't have started him today and I'd have told him that he needed to get his head right and then he'd be straight back in the starting XI. Technically he's better than Pilks but for me Pilks should have got the nod today.
Having said all which I think he had a better game today - still took too many touches in and around the 18 yard box but still (you can't really blame him for the penno, though I kvetched at the time - name any footballer and I'll show you someone who in his pomp hit some s**te ones too)
