Wrath car advice...

Is it ever a good idea to buy a car that has been a cat d write off.

My understanding of cat d's is that they're usually cosmetic damage and the insurance company decides it's more economical to pay out than repair for any one of a number of reasons such as cost of parts, delays on sourcing parts leading to higher hire costs etc.

I've seen a nice 61 plate 3 series with 13k on clock for under 11k.

What do I need to consider I.e. insurance costs etc.
